Lesson 85: 〜と（は）反対に

Usage:

Verb + の + と（は）反対に
i-Adj + の + と（は）反対に
na-Adj + な + の + と（は）反対に
Noun + と（は）反対に

Meaning:

「〜と（は）反対に」means “on the contrary”, “against…”.

Example Sentences:

（1）緑とは反対に、赤は危険の印である。
Red, as opposed to green, is a sign of danger.

（2）私の予想とは反対に、彼らは試合に負けた。
They lost the game, which is against my expectation.

（3）姉は勤勉なのと反対に、妹はゲームをやるのが好きだ。
The elder sister is very hard-working, on the contrary, the younger sister likes to play games.

Note:

You can use それとは反対はんたいに directly as a conjunction.
