Lesson 24: 〜ことか

Usage:

Past Tense Form of Verb + ことか
i-Adj + ことか
na-Adj + な + ことか

Meaning:

「～ことか」is used to express that you are impressed or surprised at something.
It’s often used with どんなに、どれほど、どれだけ、何度なんど、なんと.

Example Sentences:

（1）どんなに心配したことか。
I’m so worried.

（2）どんほど嬉しいことか。
I’m so happy.

（3）子供を育てることがどんなに大変なことか。
It’s so hard to raise a child.

（4）彼はなんと年をとったことか。
How old he is!

（5）最近の銀行員の態度はなんと無礼なことか。
These bank employees seem so politely insolent lately.

（6）何と素晴らしい時を過ごしたことか。
How wonderful a time we have had!

（7）なんと楽しいことか！
What fun!

（8）その部屋はなんて寒かったことか。
How cold it was in the room!

（9）この花はなんときれいなことか。
How pretty is this flower!

（10）愛する事と、賢明である事と、そしてそれを両立させることの何と難しいことか。
How difficult a thing it is, to love, and to be wise, and both at once.
