Lesson 48: 〜たまえ

Usage:

Polite Form of Verb(drop the ます in the end) + たまえ


Meaning:

「~たまえ」 is a light imperative expression.
It’s used by male and often used to the subordinate or friend.

Example Sentences:

(1)待ちたまえ。
Wait!
(2)説明したまえ。
Explain it!
(3)さあ話したまえ。
Now tell me.
(4)節約したまえ。
Practice thrift!
(5)この問題に集中したまえ。
Concentrate your attention on this problem.
(6)困ったら私のところへきたまえ。
Come to me if you are in difficulties.
(7)これらの小さき子らを祝福したまえ。
Bless these little children.
(8)ときどき連絡してくれたまえ。
Keep in touch with me.
(9)もし町にくることがあれば、訪ねてきたまえ。
If you ever come to town, come to see me.
(10)水を一杯飲んで、首相は「どんどん質問したまえ!」と言った。
After taking a drink of water, the Prime Minister said, “Ask away!”
