Lesson 28: 〜ことになっている/〜こととなっている

Usage:

Dictionary Form of Verb + ことになっている/こととなっている
Negative Form of Verb + ことになっている/こととなっている

Meaning:

「～ことになっている/～こととなっている」 is used to express the plan, custom or rule.

Example Sentences:

（1）今日は友達と会うことになっている。
I’m seeing my friend today.

（2）彼は町中で一番の名医ということになっている。
He is supposed to be the best doctor in the town.

（3）彼は遅くとも６時までにはここに来ることになっている。
He is to come here by six at the latest.

（4）彼は仕事で東京に行くことになっています。
He is to go to Tokyo on business.

（5）日本女性は手が器用だということになっている。
Japanese women are believed to be very clever with their hands.

（6）この部屋には、関係者以外入ってはいけないこととなっている。
This room is staff only.

（7）入り口で靴を脱ぐこととなっている。
We are supposed to take off our shoes at the entrance.

（8）第二外国語は自由に選択できることとなっている。
The second language may be freely chosen.

（9）船は３時に出ることとなっている。
The ship is sailing at three.

（10）女王は来年中国を訪問することとなっている。
The Queen is to visit China next year.
