Lesson 68: 〜ても始（はじ）まらない

Usage:

Te Form of Verb + も始まらない

Meaning:

「〜ても始まらない」means “It’s useless to…”.

Example Sentences:

（1）そんなことを言っても始まらない。
It’s useless to say something like that.

（2）焦っても始まらない。
It’s useless to be anxious.

（3）言っておくが、私に怒っても始まらないよ。
I’ll say this: you won’t get anywhere by being angry with me.

（4）その件は話し合っても始まらない。
Discussing the matter won’t get us anywhere.

（5）その事故を彼のせいにしても始まらない。
It will not to do blame him for the accident.

（6）すんでしまったことをいつまでもくよくよしても始まらない。
It is no use crying over spilt milk.

（7）毎年同じ旧型の製品を作っても始まらない。
It’s no good making the same old products year after year.

（8）文句を言っても始まらないだろう。
Complaining won’t change anything.

Note:

The difference between 「〜てもしかた（が）ない/てもしようがない」 and 「〜ても始まらない」 is that「〜ても始まらない」 can only be used with Te Form of Verb.
