Lesson 64: 〜てはならない

Usage:

Te Form of Verb + はwaならない

Meaning:

「〜てはwaならない」means “You can’t…”.
It’s used to stop somebody doing something.

Example Sentences:

（1）人生を諦めてはならない。
You can’t give up your life.

（2）ルールを変えてはならない。
You can’t change the rule.

（3）校舎内で走ってはならない。
You must not run in the school buildings.

（4）国家主義と愛国心とを混同してはならない。
Nationalism is not to be confused with patriotism.

（5）主要な目的を見失ってはならない。
You must not lose sight of your main object.

（6）自由と放任を取り違えてはならない。
You must not confuse liberty with license.

（7）収入を見越して金を使ってはならない。
Don’t anticipate your income.

（8）出かける前に食べなくてはならない。
You have to eat before you go.

（9）人を見掛けで評価してはならない。
You shouldn’t judge a man by his appearance.

（10）提出する前に、答案を調べるのを忘れてはならない。
You must not forget to check your paper before you hand it in.
