Lesson 39: 〜そうにない/そうもない

Usage:

Polite Form of Verb(drop the ます in the end) + そうにない/そうもない

Meaning:

「～そうにない/そうもない」means “It seems that…”.
It’s used to express your judgement based on the situation.

Example Sentences:

（1）今夜は寝れそうにない。
It seems that I can’t sleep tonight.

（2）彼は商売をしてもまったく成功しそうにない。
He is the last person to succeed in business.

（3）彼は重病で回復しそうにない。
He is seriously ill and unlikely to recover.

（4）彼にはこの機械を修理してもらえそうにない。
I can’t seem to get him to fix this machine.

（5）私はひどく疲れてもう歩けそうにない。
I am so tired that I can hardly walk.

（6）二時まで会社へ戻れそうもない。
It seems that I can’t come back to company before 2 p.m.

（7）彼らは結婚しそうもない。
They are unlikely to marry.

（8）彼はそんなことを決して信じそうもない。
He would be the last one to believe that.

（9）彼らはこんなに遅い時刻に来そうもない。
They are hardly likely to come at this late hour.

（10）そんな不思議な事は起こりそうもない。
Such a strange thing is not likely to happen.
