Lesson 8: 〜ていく

Usage:

Te Form of Verb + いく


Meaning 1:

「〜ていく」is used to indicate that the direction of Verb is away from the speaker.

Example Sentences of Meaning 1:

とりでいきました
The bird flew away.

かれいそいでていった
He went out in a hurry.

かれあいていった
His love grew cold.

そのおとこていった
The man ran away.

彼女かのじょ階段かいだんていった
She went down the stairs.

がけからバスはていった
The bus went over the cliff.

Meaning 2:

「〜ていく」is used to show, based on the present situation, how things will change in the future.

Example Sentences of Meaning 2:

ほんまなひとていきました
The number of people learning Japanese has increased.

どんなことがあっても、ほんべんきょうつづていきます
I will continue learning Japanese no matter what happens.

ごとにあたたかくなっていく
It is getting warmer day by day.

りゅうこうふるくなってていく
Fashions grow old and die.

わたしたちはごとにとしをとっていく
We are getting older day by day.
