Lesson 5: 〜らしい

Usage 1:

①Dictionary Form of Verb + らしい
②i-Adj + らしい
③na-Adj + らしい
④Noun + らしい


Meaning of Usage 1:

「〜らしい」means “It seems that…”.

Note:
The possibility is larger than 「〜ようだ」 and 「〜そうだ」.

Example Sentences of Usage 1:

かれびょうらしい
He seems to be sick.

かれ学生がくせいらしい
He seems to be a student.

彼女かのじょしあわらしい
She seems to be happy.

あさべんきょうしたほう効率こうりつがいいらしい
It seems that studying in the morning is more effective.

二人ふたり結婚けっこんするらしいです。
It seems that they will get married.

イギリスはさむらしいです。
It seems that England is cold.

さくらせつはきれいらしいです。
It seems that the cherry blossom’s season is beautiful.

Usage 2:

Noun + らしい


Meaning of Usage 2:

「Noun + らしい」means “Acts just like…”; “is / typical of ~ / an epitome of…”.

Example Sentences of Usage 2:

学生がくせいなら学生がくせいらしくしなさい。
If you are a student behave like one.

今日きょうあきらしいてんです。
Today is a typical day of autumn.

どもどもらしくそとあそんだほうがいい。
Children should play outside like children.

わたしいままで、びょうらしいびょうをしたことがありません。
I have never had a sickness that looks like sickness.

この会社かいしゃにいてもぶんらしくはたらくことはむずかしいから、ぶん会社かいしゃつくろうとおもっている。
