Lesson 63: 〜なくて

Usage:

①Negative Form of Verb(change the い in the end to く) + て
②i-Adj(change the い in the end to く) + なくて
③na-Adj + で + なくて
④Noun + で/が + なくて


Meaning:

「〜なくて」 means “not…”; “lack of…”; “instead of…”.

Example Sentences:

きみがいなくてさびしいよ。
You’re not here, so I’m really sad.

はなみずなくてれた。
The flowers died for lack of water.

かれ学者がくしゃなくて活動かつどうだ。
He is not a learned man, but a man of action.

わたししゃなくてきょうだ。
I am not a doctor, but a teacher.

かれがいなくてがっかりです。
I’m disappointed that he’s not here.

あそあいなくてどくだった。
I was lonely, with nobody to play with.

わたしはおかねなくてこまっている。
I’m a bit pushed for lack of money.

たすけてあげられなくてごめんね。
We are sorry we can not help you.

バスでなくて列車れっしゃきましょう。
Let’s go by train instead of by bus.

ジョンソン学者がくしゃなくてじんだ。
Mr Johnson is not a scholar but a poet.
