Lesson 63: 〜なくて

Usage:

①Negative Form of Verb(change the い in the end to く) + て
②i-Adj（change the い in the end to く） + なくて
③na-Adj + で + なくて
④Noun + で/が + なくて

Meaning:

「〜なくて」 means “not…”; “lack of…”; “instead of…”.

Example Sentences:

君きみがいなくて寂さびしいよ。
You’re not here, so I’m really sad.

花はなは水みずがなくて枯かれた。
The flowers died for lack of water.

彼かれは学者がくしゃでなくて活動かつどう家かだ。
He is not a learned man, but a man of action.

私わたしは医い者しゃでなくて教きょう師しだ。
I am not a doctor, but a teacher.

彼かれがいなくてがっかりです。
I’m disappointed that he’s not here.

遊あそび相あい手てがなくて孤こ独どくだった。
I was lonely, with nobody to play with.

私わたしはお金かねがなくて困こまっている。
I’m a bit pushed for lack of money.

助たすけてあげられなくてごめんね。
We are sorry we can not help you.

バスでなくて列車れっしゃで行いきましょう。
Let’s go by train instead of by bus.

ジョンソン氏しは学者がくしゃでなくて詩し人じんだ。
Mr Johnson is not a scholar but a poet.
