Usage 1:

Past Tense Form of Verb + ことがある
Past Tense Form of Verb + ことがない


Meaning of Usage 1:

「Past Tense Form of Verb + ことがある」means “I have…before”.
「Past Tense Form of Verb + ことがない」means “I have never…before”.

Example Sentences of Usage 1:

ごくたことがあるか?
Have you seen hell?

いちたことがある
I have seen him once.

ここにはまえたことがある
I‘ve already come here before.

彼女かのじょはパリにたことがある
She has been to Paris.

外国がいこくたことがありますか?
Have you ever been to a foreign country?

献血けんけつをしたことがありますか。
Have you ever donated blood?

トムはちがたことがない
Tom is never wrong.

わたしはゴルフをしたことがありません
I’ve never played golf.

Usage 2:

Verb(Dictionary Form,Negative Form)+ ことがある


Meaning of Usage 2:

「Verb(Dictionary Form,Negative Form)+ ことがある」doesn’t have meaning itself, it is used to express that you do or you don’t do something sometimes, because they are often used with words that mean “Sometimes…”, so you can just translate them into “Sometimes…”.

Note: often used with たまに、時々ときどき 、ときに
(They mean “Sometimes….”)

Example Sentences of Usage 2:

時々ときどきかんじょうおさえられないことがある
Sometimes I can’t help showing emotions.

たまにあさごはんをないことがあります
I don’t have breakfast sometimes.

時々ときどきほんべんきょうすることがあります
I study Japanese sometimes.

ときにストレスをかんじることがある
Sometimes I do feel stress.

時々ときどきごとをやめたいとおもことがある
Sometimes I want to quit my job.

時々ときどきあたまいたくてられないことがある
Sometimes I have a headache and can’t sleep.
