Lesson 7: 〜ておく/とく
Usage:

①Te Form of Verb + おく
②Te Form of Verb(drop the て in the end)+とく
Meaning:
「〜ておく/とく」means “do something in advance”; “leave something undone”. |
Examples:
これ、冷蔵庫に入れておくよ。 I’ll put this in the fridge. その教訓は覚えておく価値がある。 It is worthwhile remembering the moral. 明日までに知っておく必要がある。 I need to know by tomorrow. まさかの時に備えておくのは賢明だ。 It is wise to provide against a rainy day. レポートを書く前に、資料を集めておく。 I will collect the document in advance before I write the report. |
Note:

とく is often used in conversation.
考えとくよ。 I’ll think about it. 予約しとくね。 I’ll make a reservation. 先に謝っとくね。 I’ll apologize first. やっぱり、やめとく。 Maybe next time. パーティーの準備しとくよ。 I’ll see to the arrangements for the party. |

If the ~って of te-form is used, ex : 笑って would it be 笑っとく or 笑とく?
