Usage:

Noun + という


Meaning:

「Noun + という」means “something that is called…”; “somebody that is called…”.

Example Sentences:

というごうは、andをす。
The sign ‘&’ stands for ‘and’.

これはなんというはなですか?
What’s this flower called?

ここはなんというとおりですか。
What’s this street called?

そのうまはなんというまえですか?
What’s the horse’s name?

あのごうなんという意味いみですか。
What does this sign mean?

このぶんなんという意味いみですか。
What does this sentence mean?

トムというわかおとこったよ。
I met a young man whose name was Tom.

広島ひろしまくちというところがあります。
There’s a place called Kuchiwa in Hiroshima.

わたしはスミスという男性だんせいっている。
I know a guy named Smith.

ABCという会社かいしゃっていますか。
Do you know a company that is called ABC?
