Usage:

Noun + という

Meaning:

「Noun + という」means “something that is called…”; “somebody that is called…”.

Example Sentences:

＆という記き号ごうは、andを指さす。
The sign ‘&’ stands for ‘and’.

これは何なんという花はなですか？
What’s this flower called?

ここは何なんという通とおりですか。
What’s this street called?

その馬うまはなんという名な前まえですか？
What’s the horse’s name?

あの記き号ごう、何なんという意味いみですか。
What does this sign mean?

この文ぶんは何なんという意味いみですか。
What does this sentence mean?

トムという若わかい男おとこに会あったよ。
I met a young man whose name was Tom.

広島ひろしまに口くち和わというところがあります。
There’s a place called Kuchiwa in Hiroshima.

私わたしはスミスという男性だんせいを知しっている。
I know a guy named Smith.

ABCという会社かいしゃを知しっていますか。
Do you know a company that is called ABC？
