Lesson 71: 〜（よ）うと思う

Usage:

Volitional Form of Verb + と思おもう
Volitional Form of Verb + と思おもっている

Meaning:

「〜（よ）うと思う」means “(I) would like to…”, “(I) want to…”, “(I) think…”.
「〜（よ）うと思っている」means “(I’m) considering…”, “(I’m) thinking about…”.

Example Sentences:

今こん夜やは早はやめに寝ねようと思おもう。
I think I’ll go to bed early tonight.

友達ともだちにメールしようと思おもいます。
I think I’ll email my friends.

彼かれはおじを訪たずねようと思おもっている。
He‘s considering visiting his uncle.

なんでフランス語ご勉べん強きょうしようと思おもったの？
Why did you decide to study French?

両りょう親しんが来くる前まえに、家いえを掃そう除じしようと思おもう。
I would like to clean up the house before my parents come.

本ほん気きで一晩ひとばん中じゅう運転うんてんしようと思おもっているんですか？
Are you seriously thinking about driving all night?

時々ときどき、彼かれと離り婚こんしようと思おもう。
Now and then I think of divorcing him.

面白おもしろそうだから、やってみようと思おもっている。
I’m thinking to have a try because it looks interesting.

フランス語ごを始はじめようと思おもうんだけど、おすすめの教きょう材ざいを紹しょう介かいしてくれない？
I want to start learning French. Can you recommend me any materials to study with?

彼女かのじょは大学だいがくに入にゅう学がくしたら、親おやから経済的けいざいてきに独立どくりつしようと思おもっていた。
She was thinking that she could become economically independent from her parents if she went to college.
