Lesson 2: 〜たがる

Usage:

Polite Form of Verb(drop the ます in the end) + たがる

Meaning:

「〜たがる/〜たがている」means “wants to…”.

How to use?
①Step 1: Change the verb to Polite Form.
For example,
会あう→会います
食たべる→食べます
勉強べんきょうする→勉強します

②Step 2: Drop the ます in the end，and add たがる or たがっている in the end.
For example,
会います→会いたがる or 会いたがっている
食べます→食べたがる or 食べたがっている
勉強します→勉強したがる or 勉強したがっている

Example Sentences:

トムは窓まどのそばに座すわりたがる。
Tom wants to sit near the window.

彼かれはこのストーリーを聞ききたがる。
He wants to listen to this story.

この学生がくせいは日に本ほんに行いきたがる。
This student wants to go to Japan.

そこへ行いきたがる人ひとは誰だれもいない。
There is no one who wants to go there.

彼かれはまだ来きたがっている。
He still wants to come.

田た中なかが遊あそびたがっている。
Tanaka wants to play.

中村なかむらが手て伝つだいたがっている。
Nakamura wants to help.

佐さ藤とうは結婚けっこんしたがっている。
Satou wants to get married.

彼かれは医い者しゃになりたがっている。
He wants to become a doctor.

彼女かのじょはとても痩やせたがっている。
She wants to become thin very much.

彼かれはその本ほんを読よみたがっている。
He wants to read this book.

彼かれは私わたしのようになりたがっている。
He wants to be like me.

Note:

私わたしはお昼ひるを食たべたがる。❌

Please do not make sentences like above!
〜たがる can’t be used to express “My” wishes.

Instead，you can use 〜たい to express “My” wishes.

私わたしはお昼ひるが食たべたいです。✅
I want to have lunch.
