Lesson 10: 〜てしまう/ちゃう

Usage:

①Te Form of Verb + しまう
②Te Form of Verb(drop the て in the end) + ちゃう


Meaning:

「~てしまう/ちゃう」means:
①the action has been completed.
② do negative action unintentionally. / something regrettable happens.

Note:
「〜ちゃった」= 「〜てしまった」.
「〜ちゃう」and 「〜ちゃった」are less formal than 「〜てしまう」and「〜てしまった」.

Example Sentences:

あまものwaついてしまう
I can’t resist sweet things.

彼女かのじょ責任せきにんさにwaあきてしまう
I’m surprised by her lack of responsibility.

らくたものは、すぐにうしなてしまう
Easy come, easy go.

このうたくたびにわたしちゃう
I cry every time I listen to this song.

ねこ可愛かわいらしさにおもわずわらちゃった
Without thinking I laughed at the cuteness of the cat.

こおりてしまった
The ice has melted.

彼女かのじょてしまった
She had gone to bed.

かれしつぎょうてしまった
He has lost his job.

みちまよちゃった
I got lost.

風邪かぜちゃった
I have caught a cold.
