Lesson 72: あげる/さしあげる

Usage:

Noun + を + あげる
Noun + を + さしあげる

Meaning:

あげる/さしあげる means “give…”.

How to use?
Giver + は + Receiver + に + Things + を + あげる
Giver + は + Receiver + に + Things + を + さしあげる

If the Giver is dropped, then it means the Giver is the speaker.

Example Sentences:

Have you fed the cat?

トムに大金たいきんあげた
I gave a lot of money to Tom.

トムはいぬみずあげました

Notes:

①Don’t use あげる/さしあげる directly to your superior,it is rude!Instead, you can use something like ケーキをどうぞ。
②It will be perfectly fine to use it when you are talking with others what you did. (just like the example below.)

学生がくせい A:わたし先生せんせいにケーキさしあげました
Student A:I gave the teacher the cake.

学生がくせい B:今日きょう先生せんせいのおたんじょうですか。
Student B:Is today the teacher’s birthday?
