Lesson 71: 〜(よ)うと思う

Usage:

Volitional Form of Verb + とおも
Volitional Form of Verb + とおもっている


Meaning:

「〜(よ)うと思う」means “(I) would like to…”, “(I) want to…”, “(I) think…”.
「〜(よ)うと思っている」means “(I’m) considering…”, “(I’m) thinking about…”.

Example Sentences:

こんはやめにようとおも
I think I’ll go to bed early tonight.

友達ともだちにメールしようとおもいます
I think I’ll email my friends.

かれはおじをたずようとおもっている
He‘s considering visiting his uncle.

なんでフランスべんきょうようとおもったの?
Why did you decide to study French?

りょうしんまえに、いえそうようとおも
I would like to clean up the house before my parents come.

ほん一晩ひとばんじゅう運転うんてんようとおもっているんですか?
Are you seriously thinking about driving all night?

時々ときどきかれこんようとおも
Now and then I think of divorcing him.

面白おもしろそうだから、やってみようとおもっている
I’m thinking to have a try because it looks interesting.

フランスはじようとおもんだけど、おすすめのきょうざいしょうかいしてくれない?
I want to start learning French. Can you recommend me any materials to study with?

彼女かのじょ大学だいがくにゅうがくしたら、おやから経済的けいざいてき独立どくりつようとおもっていた
She was thinking that she could become economically independent from her parents if she went to college.
