Lesson 7: 〜ておく/とく

Usage:

①Te Form of Verb + おく
②Te Form of Verb（drop the て in the end）+とく

Meaning:

「〜ておく/とく」means “do something in advance”; “leave something undone”.

Example Sentences:

これ、冷蔵れいぞう庫こに入いれておくよ。
I’ll put this in the fridge.

その教きょう訓くんは覚おぼえておく価値かちがある。
It is worthwhile remembering the moral.

明日あしたまでに知しっておく必要ひつようがある。
I need to know by tomorrow.

まさかの時ときに備そなえておくのは賢明けんめいだ。
It is wise to provide against a rainy day.

レポートを書かく前まえに、資し料りょうを集あつめておく。
I will collect the document in advance before I write the report.

Note:

とく is often used in conversation.

考かんがえとくよ。
I’ll think about it.

予よ約やくしとくね。
I’ll make a reservation.

先さきに謝あやまっとくね。
I’ll apologize first.

やっぱり、やめとく。
Maybe next time.

パーティーの準じゅん備びしとくよ。
I’ll see to the arrangements for the party.
