Lesson 5: 〜らしい

Usage 1:

①Dictionary Form of Verb + らしい
②i-Adj ＋らしい
③na-Adj ＋らしい
④Noun + らしい

Meaning of Usage 1:

「〜らしい」means “It seems that…”.

Note:
The possibility is larger than 「〜ようだ」 and 「〜そうだ」.

Example Sentences of Usage 1:

彼かれは病びょう気きらしい。
He seems to be sick.

彼かれは学生がくせいらしい。
He seems to be a student.

彼女かのじょは幸しあわせらしい。
She seems to be happy.

朝あさ勉べん強きょうしたほうは効率こうりつがいいらしい。
It seems that studying in the morning is more effective.

二人ふたりは結婚けっこんするらしいです。
It seems that they will get married.

イギリスは寒さむいらしいです。
It seems that England is cold.

桜さくらの季き節せつはきれいらしいです。
It seems that the cherry blossom’s season is beautiful.

Usage 2:

Noun + らしい

Meaning of Usage 2:

「Noun + らしい」means “Acts just like…”; “is / typical of ~ / an epitome of…”.

Example Sentences of Usage 2:

学生がくせいなら学生がくせいらしくしなさい。
If you are a student behave like one.

今日きょうは秋あきらしい天てん気きです。
Today is a typical day of autumn.

子こ供どもは子こ供どもらしく、外そとで遊あそんだほうがいい。
Children should play outside like children.

私わたしは今いままで、病びょう気きらしい病びょう気きをしたことがありません。
I have never had a sickness that looks like sickness.

この会社かいしゃにいても自じ分ぶんらしく働はたらくことは難むずかしいから、自じ分ぶんの会社かいしゃを作つくろうと思おもっている。
