Lesson 38: 〜ほど〜ない

Usage:

Noun 1 は Noun 2 ほど～ない
Noun ほど〜ものはない

Meaning:

「Noun 1 は Noun 2 ほど～ない」means “Noun 1 is not as … as Noun 2“.
「Noun ほど〜ものはない」means “Nothing is … as … Noun“.

Example Sentences:

私わたしは吉よし雄おほど忙いそがしくない。
I am not as busy as Yoshio.

嫌きらいな仕し事ごとほど辛つらいものはない。
Nothing is as hard as the one you don’t like to do.

日に本ほんでは富ふ士じ山さんほど高たかい山やまはない。
No mountain in Japan is higher than Mt. Fuji.

ダイヤモンドほど硬かたいものはない。
Nothing is as hard as a diamond.

今日きょうは昨日きのうほど寒さむくないです。
Today is not as cold as yesterday.

私わたしは彼かれほど背せが高たかくないです。
I’m not as tall as him.

彼かれは兄あにほど賢かしこくない。
He is not as smart as his older brother.

彼かれは前まえほど勉べん強きょうしない。
He doesn’t study as hard as he used to.

私わたしは昔むかしほど健康けんこうではない。
I’m not as healthy as I used to be.

ベンは見みかけほど若わかくない。
Ben is not as young as he looks.
