Lesson 38: 〜ほど〜ない

Usage:

Noun 1 は Noun 2 ほど~ない
Noun ほど〜ものはない


Meaning:

「Noun 1 は Noun 2 ほど~ない」means “Noun 1 is not as … as Noun 2“.
「Noun ほど〜ものはない」means “Nothing is … as … Noun“.

Example Sentences:

わたしよしほどいそがしくない
I am not as busy as Yoshio.

きらいなごとほどつらものはない
Nothing is as hard as the one you don’t like to do.

ほんではさんほどたかやまない
No mountain in Japan is higher than Mt. Fuji.

ダイヤモンドほどかたものはない
Nothing is as hard as a diamond.

今日きょう昨日きのうほどさむないです。
Today is not as cold as yesterday.

わたしかれほどたかないです。
I’m not as tall as him.

かれあにほどかしこない
He is not as smart as his older brother.

かれまえほどべんきょうない
He doesn’t study as hard as he used to.

わたしむかしほど健康けんこうではない
I’m not as healthy as I used to be.

ベンはかけほどわかない
Ben is not as young as he looks.
