Lesson 37: 〜し/〜し〜し

Usage:

①Verb(Dictionary Form, Polite Form, Past Tense Form, Negative Form…) + し
②i-Adj + し
③na-Adj + だ/です + し
④Noun + だ/です + し

Meaning:

「～し/～し～し」means “Because… and …”.
It is used to list two or more reasons, you can also list only one reason to let others know that there are other reasons but you just don’t bother to mention it.

Example Sentences:

いまは遅おそいし、外そと寒さむいし、行いきたくないです。
I don’t want to go because it’s too late now and it’s cold outside.

問題もんだいは簡単かんたんだし、復ふく習しゅうしたくないです。
I don’t want to review because the questions are simple.

体からだはだるいし、頭あたまも痛いたいし、今日きょうは会社かいしゃを休やすみたい気き分ぶんだなあ。
I’m tired, and my head hurts, so I feel like taking a day off from work today.

もう時じ間かんも遅おそいことですし、そろそろ失礼しつれいいたします。
It’s too late, so I think I need to leave.

このレストランは安やすいし、環かん境きょうもいいし、よく来きます。
This restaurant is cheap, and the environment is good, so I come here often.

彼かれはスポーツ万能ばんのうだし、ハンサムだし、女おんなの子こにモテないわけがない。
He’s good at all sports, and he is handsome, so it’s impossible that he is not popular.

急きゅうに残ざん業ぎょうしろと言いわれたって、こちらにも都つ合ごうがあるし、困こまったなあ。
Suddenly I was told to work overtime, but I have something to do, so I don’t know what to do.

私わたしは最近さいきん、いい彼かれ氏しができたし、仕し事ごとも楽たのしいし、とても幸しあわせです。
I recently had a good boyfriend, and I enjoy my work, so I am very happy.

私わたしはまだ学生がくせいだし、若わかいし、未み来らいのこと考かんがえたくないです。
I don’t want to think about the future because I’m just a student and young.

雨あめも降ふっているし、風かぜも強つよいし、最悪さいあくの天てん気きだ。
It’s raining, and the wind is strong, so it’s the worst weather.
