Lesson 10: 〜てしまう/ちゃう

Usage:

①Te Form of Verb + しまう
②Te Form of Verb（drop the て in the end） + ちゃう

Meaning:

「～てしまう/ちゃう」means:
①the action has been completed.
② do negative action unintentionally. / something regrettable happens.

Note:
「〜ちゃった」= 「〜てしまった」.
「〜ちゃう」and 「〜ちゃった」are less formal than 「〜てしまう」and「〜てしまった」.

Example Sentences:

甘あまい物ものにはwaつい手てが出でてしまう。
I can’t resist sweet things.

彼女かのじょの無む責任せきにんさにはwa呆あきれてしまう。
I’m surprised by her lack of responsibility.

楽らくに得えたものは、すぐに失うしなってしまう。
Easy come, easy go.

この歌うたを聴きくたびに私わたしは泣ないちゃう。
I cry every time I listen to this song.

猫ねこの可愛かわいらしさに思おもわず笑わらっちゃった。
Without thinking I laughed at the cuteness of the cat.

氷こおりが溶とけてしまった。
The ice has melted.

彼女かのじょは寝ねてしまった。
She had gone to bed.

彼かれは失しつ業ぎょうしてしまった。
He has lost his job.

道みちに迷まよっちゃった。
I got lost.

風邪かぜを引ひいちゃった。
I have caught a cold.
