Lesson 90: 〜ないまでも
Usage:
Negative Form of Verb + までも
Meaning:
| 「～ないまでも」is a grammar rule used to compare two things, it need to be a degree of the latter even though it can not be at a degree of the former. |
Examples:
| 昨日の演奏は、最高の出来とは言えないまでも、かなりよかったと思う。 I think the performance yesterday was pretty good, if not the best. プロのコックとは言わないまでも、彼の料理の腕はなかなかのものだ。 He’s a good cook, if not a professional cook. |
