Lesson 90: 〜ないまでも

Usage:

Negative Form of Verb + までも


Meaning:

「~ないまでも」is a grammar rule used to compare two things, it need to be a degree of the latter even though it can not be at a degree of the former.

Examples:

昨日きのう演奏えんそうは、最高さいこう出来できとはえないまでも、かなりよかったとおもう。
I think the performance yesterday was pretty good, if not the best.
 
プロのコックとはわないまでも、かれりょううではなかなかのものだ。
He’s a good cook, if not a professional cook.
