Lesson 80: 〜とは/なんて

Usage:

①Verb(Dictionary Form, Past Tense Form, Negative Form) + とは/なんて
②Te Form of Verb + いる + とは/なんて
③i-Adj + とは/なんて
④na-Adj + とは/なんて
⑤Noun + とは/なんて


Meaning:

「~とは/なんて」means “I can’t believe that…”.

Examples:

だんはおとなしいかれがあんなにおこるとは、よほどひどいことをわれたのだろう。
I can’t believe that he was angry like that as he is a quiet person. It seems that someone said very awful things to him.
 
20歳はたちにもなって、そんな簡単かんたんなこともできないなんて。
I can’t believe that he is unable to do something easy like that even he is 20 years old.
