Usage:
①Noun + (の) + いかんで/いかんでは/いかんによっては
②Noun + (の) + いかんにかかっている/いかんだ（More formal than 〜次第だ）
Meaning:
| 「〜いかんで/いかんでは/いかんによっては/いかんにかかっている/いかんだ」means “depends on…”. |
Examples:
| 天気のいかんでは、試合が中止になる可能性もある。 Depending on the weather, the game might be canceled. Tenki no ikan de wa, shiai ga chuushi ni naru kanousei mo aru. 交渉の進展のいかんによっては、契約を見送ることも考えられる。 Depending on how the negotiations progress, we might postpone the contract. Koushou no shinten no ikan ni yotte wa, keiyaku o miokuru koto mo kangaerareru. 対応のいかんでは、信頼を完全に失うことになりかねない。 Depending on how we respond, we could completely lose their trust. Taiou no ikan de wa, shinrai o kanzen ni ushinau koto ni narikanenai. 上司の判断のいかんによっては、プロジェクトが中止されるかもしれない。 Depending on the manager’s decision, the project may be canceled. Joushi no handan no ikan ni yotte wa, purojekuto ga chuushi sareru kamoshirenai. 証拠のいかんでは、判決が変わることもある。 Depending on the evidence, the verdict might change. Shouko no ikan de wa, hanketsu ga kawaru koto mo aru. 成否はあなたの努力のいかんにかかっている。 Success or failure depends on your effort. Seihi wa anata no doryoku no ikan ni kakatte iru. この国の未来は、若者たちの行動のいかんにかかっている。 The future of this country depends on the actions of the youth. Kono kuni no mirai wa, wakamono-tachi no koudou no ikan ni kakatte iru. 試験の結果は、準備のいかんにかかっていると言える。 The exam result depends on how well you’ve prepared. Shiken no kekka wa, junbi no ikan ni kakatte iru to ieru. 事業の成功は市場の反応のいかんだ。 The success of the business depends on the market’s reaction.
