Lesson 75: 〜（か）と思いきや

Usage:

①Noun + だ + （か）と思おもいきや
②Verb(Dictionary Form, Past Tense Form) + （か）と思おもいきや
③Te Form of Verb + いる + （か）と思おもいきや
④i-Adj + （か）と思おもいきや
⑤na-Adj+ （か）と思おもいきや

Meaning:

「～（か）と思いきや」is used to express that what I thought is different from the truth, which surprised me.

Examples:

宝たからくじに当あたったかと思おもいきや、番号ばんごうを見み間ま違ちがえてしまった。
I thought I won the lottery, but I had read the number wrong.

やっと試し験けんが終おわわって休やすめるかと思おもいきや、宿しゅく題だいをたくさん出だされました。
I finished my exam and thought I could finally relax, but then got assigned a bunch of homework.
