Lesson 38: （ひとり）〜だけでなく/のみならず

Usage:

①（ひとり）+ Verb(Dictionary Form, Past Tense Form) + だけでなく/のみならず
②（ひとり）+ Te Form of Verb + いる + だけでなく/のみならず
③（ひとり）+ i-Adj + だけでなく/のみならず
④（ひとり）+ na-Adj+ な/である + だけでなく/のみならず
⑤（ひとり）+ Noun + だけでなく/のみならず

Meaning:

「（ひとり）〜だけでなく/のみならず」means “not only…”; “not just…”.

Note:
ひとり is used to emphasize the sentence, so you can use this grammar rule without it.

Examples:

ひとり私わたしだけでなくほかの人ひともそれに興きょう味みを示しめした。
Not only me, others showed interest in it.

会社かいしゃの業ぎょう績せき改善かいぜんは、営えい業ぎょう部ぶ門もんのみならず、社員しゃいん全体ぜんたいの努ど力りょくにかかっている。
Improving the company’s performance depends on the efforts of all employees, not just the sales department.
