Meaning

 In Japanese,変 means “to change”.

How to read it:

Kunyomi:か
Onyomi:へん

Kunyomi:
名前(なまえ)を変(か)える→to change the name
世界(せかい)が変(か)わった→The world has changed
 
Onyomi:
変化(へんか)→change 変(へん)な人(ひと)→weird person

Origin:

You can see someone holding something. It’s a toy.
You can make a sound by shaking it. You shake it, you change the position of it.
So 変 means “to change”.
 
Note: There are some difference between Chinese kanji and Japanese kanji. You should use Japanese kanji. (Which has a 亦 above.)
