Meaning

In Japanese,残 means “to leave”.

Kunyomi:のこ
Onyomi:ざん

Kunyomi:
残(のこ)る→to stay
残(のこ)す→to leave
 
Onyomi:
残念(ざんねん)→pity
残業(ざんぎょう)→overtime

Origin:
