Usage:

Past Tense Form of Verb + ところをると

Te Form of Verb + いる + ところをると

 

Meaning:

judging from; seeing that

 

Examples:

あさからニコニコしているところをると、なにかいいことがあったにちがいない。

Judging by her smiling face from morning,  there must have been something good.

 

電灯でんとうえているところをると、彼女かのじょはもうたようだ。

Seeing that the lights are off, she must have gone to bed already.
