Lesson 44: 〜たとたん(に)

Usage:

Past Tense Form of Verb + とたん(に)


Meaning:

「〜たとたん(に)」means “as soon as…”.

Examples:

がみたとたん、彼女かのじょしてしまった。
She started crying as soon as she saw the letter.
 
あつくなったとたんに、ビールのきがくなった。
The beer sales became better as soon as the weather became hot.

  1. What’s the difference between  すぐに and ~ verb + 出す?

    手て紙がみを見みたとたん、彼女かのじょは泣なき出だしてしまった。
    She started crying as soon as she saw the letter.

    Why did the second clause came first before the first clause?

      They are different.
      すぐに:soon.
      ~出す:begin to do something.
