Lesson 56: 〜てはじめて

Usage:

Te Form of Verb + はじめて


Meaning:

「〜てはじめて」means “Only when I…did I…”.
It’s often used to express that I got some new thinking after something happened.

Examples:

外国がいこく生活せいかつをしてはじめて、ぶんくにさがわかった。
Only when I lived in a foreign country did I understand the goodness of my country.
 
一人ひとりらすようになってはじめて、ぞくがどんなにありがたいかがわかった。
Only when I lived alone did I know how grateful the family was.
