Lesson 42: 〜たところが

Usage:

Past Tense Form of Verb + ところが


Meaning:

「〜たところが」means “However…”.

Examples:

なかさんならわかるだろうとおもっていてみたところが、かれにもわからないという。
I thought Mr. Tanaka would know it so I asked him, however, he said he didn’t know it either.
 
むかしんでいたまちたずねたところが、ようがすっかりわっていてまよってしまった。
I visited the town where I lived in the past, however, it changed too much that I got lost.
