Usage:

Past Tense Form of Verb + ところが
Meaning:
「〜たところが」means “However…”. |
Examples:
田中さんならわかるだろうと思って聞いてみたところが、彼にもわからないという。 I thought Mr. Tanaka would know it so I asked him, however, he said he didn’t know it either. 昔住んでいた町を訪ねたところが、様子がすっかり変わっていて迷ってしまった。 I visited the town where I lived in the past, however, it changed too much that I got lost. |
