Meaning of Usage 1:
「〜次第だ/次第で(は)」means “due to/because…”. It’s used to explain something. |
Examples of Usage 1:
以上のような次第で、来週の社員旅行は延期にさせていただきます。 Due to the reasons above, next week’s employee trip will be postponed. 父が病気のため、実家の豆腐屋を引き継いだ次第だ。 I will take over the tofu shop because of my father’s illness. |
Usage 2:

Noun + 次第だ/次第で(は)
Meaning of Usage 2:
「次第だ/次第で(は)」means “depends on…”; “up to…”. |
Examples of Usage 2:
明日ハイキングに行くかどうかは、天気次第だ。 It depends on the weather whether to go hiking tomorrow or not. この事業が成功するかは君次第だよ! The success of this business is up to you! |
Notes:
①次第で is used in the middle of sentence. ②次第だ is used in the end of sentence. |
