Usage 1:

Noun + きり
Meaning of Usage 1:
「〜きり/きりだ」means “only…” It’s the same with 「〜だけ」. |
Examples of Usage 1:
今日の新聞は見出しを読んだきりで、具体的な内容はまだ読んでいない。 I only read the title of today’s newspaper, and I haven’t read the specifics yet. 一回きりの人生だから、楽しく過ごしたい。 I want to live happily because I only live once. |
Usage 2:

Past Tense Form of Verb + きり/きりだ
Meaning of Usage 2:
「〜きり/きりだ」means “something never happens again since the last time”. |
Examples of Usage 2:
彼は今ごろどうしているだろう。卒業した翌年に一度会ったきりだ。 How’s he doing now? I only met him once the second year of graduating.(and never meet him again.) ギターは20年前に習ったきりです。 I only learned guitar 20 years ago(and never touch it again). |
