~ずつ

In this lesson, I will teach you how to use the grammar rule ~ずつ.


Usage 1:

Number + ずつ

Meaning: one(or more) each/one(or more) for each.

Examples of Usage 1:

さんずつください。
Please give me three of each kind.

1人ひとりずつバスにりなさい。
Get on the bus one by one.

たまごいちダースずつつめなさい。
Pack eggs in dozens.

どうぞ一人ひとりずつはいりください。
Please come in one by one.

メアリーはたまごひとずつした。
Mary took out the eggs one by one.

Usage 2:

すこし + ずつ
Number + ずつ

Meaning: little by little, bit by bit, one by one (repeat by the same amount or degree)

Note: すこし means “a little”, it’s an adverb.

Examples of Usage 2:

みどりすこずつてきている。
Green leaves are coming out little by little.

かれすこずつよくなっています。
He is getting better bit by bit.

ひとずつかんまなんでいます。
I am learning kanji one by one.


トムのほんすこずつしんしている。
Tom’s Japanese is improving little by little.

わたしすこずつぶんもくひょう実現じつげんさせます。
I will accomplish my purpose step by step.
