Lesson 28: 〜で〜いちばん

Usage:

①Noun1 + の中なかで + Noun2 + がいちばん〜

②Noun2 は Noun1 の中なかでいちばん〜

Meaning:

「Noun1 + （の中）で + Noun2 + がいちばん」and 「Noun2 は Noun1 （の中）でいちばん〜」means “Noun 2 is the most…of/in Noun 1”.

Notes:
①Please note that いちばん can be written as 一番いちばん too. They are the same.
②In order to help you practice reading kanji, the example sentences below are all written as 一番いちばん.

Example Sentences:

クラスの中で、田中さんがいちばん背が高い。　
In the class, Tanaka-san is the tallest.
Kurasu no naka de, Tanaka-san ga ichiban se ga takai.

日本の中で、東京がいちばん人口が多い。
In Japan, Tokyo has the largest population.
Nihon no naka de, Toukyou ga ichiban jinkou ga ooi.

果物の中で、りんごがいちばん好きです。
Among fruits, I like apples the most.
Kudamono no naka de, ringo ga ichiban suki desu.

映画の中で、この作品がいちばん感動した。
Among movies, this work moved me the most.
Eiga no naka de, kono sakuhin ga ichiban kandou shita.

本の中で、この小説がいちばん面白かった。
Among books, this novel was the most interesting.
Hon no naka de, kono shousetsu ga ichiban omoshirokatta.

田中さんはクラスでいちばん背が高い。
Tanaka-san is the tallest in the class.
Tanaka-san wa kurasu de ichiban se ga takai.

東京は日本でいちばん人口が多い。　
Tokyo has the largest population in Japan.
Toukyou wa Nihon de ichiban jinkou ga ooi.

りんごは果物でいちばん好きです。　
I like apples the most among fruits.
Ringo wa kudamono de ichiban suki desu.

この作品は映画でいちばん感動した。　
This work was the most moving among movies.
Kono sakuhin wa eiga de ichiban kandou shita.

この小説は本でいちばん面白かった。　
This novel was the most interesting among books.
Kono shousetsu wa hon de ichiban omoshirokatta.

Note:

一番いちばん can be used to describe nouns directly. It means “best”.

この映えい画がは今いままで見みた中なかで一番いちばんだ。
This is the best movie I’ve ever seen.
