Lesson 32: どうぞ~
Usage:
どうぞ + Verb
Meaning:
「どうぞ〜」 means “Please…”. Notes: ①You use 「どうぞ〜」 when you want to ask somebody to do something in a polite way. ②By the way, you can use 「どうぞ」 directly, it means “go ahead”. |
Example Sentences:
隣どうぞ。 Please come sit next to me. はいどうぞ。 Here it is. 次の方どうぞ。 Next person, please. お先にどうぞ。 After you. 私のをどうぞ。 Please take mine. どうぞ続けて。 Please go on. プリンをどうぞ。 Here’s your pudding. どうぞ遠慮なく。 Be my guest! どうぞよろしく。 Nice to meet you. こちらへどうぞ。 This way, please. どうぞお構いなく。 Please don’t bother. お好きな席にどうぞ。 Please sit wherever you like. どうぞおかけください。 Please have a seat. どうぞご覧ください。 Please take a look. A:このペンを借りてもいいですか。 B: どうぞ。 A:Could I borrow this pen? B: Go ahead. |
Note:
In プリンをどうぞ, maybe you will wonder: Is どうぞ a verb? Nope, it’s not a verb. it’s an adverb. In プリンをどうぞ=プリンをどうぞ(食べてください)。 It just dropped the verb to make this sentence more polite. |

どうぞおかけください。
This one is weird to me.
Is the どうぞ necessary?
Doesn’t this just read as “Please, please take a seat”?
どうぞ is not necessary, but it will be more polite.
