Lesson 32: どうぞ~

Usage:

どうぞ + Verb


Meaning:

「どうぞ〜」 means “Please…”.

Notes:
①You use 「どうぞ〜」 when you want to ask somebody to do something in a polite way.
②By the way, you can use 「どうぞ」 directly, it means “go ahead”.

Example Sentences:

となりどうぞ
Please come sit next to me.

はいどうぞ
Here it is.

つぎかたどうぞ
Next person, please.

さきどうぞ
After you.

わたしのをどうぞ
Please take mine.

どうぞつづけて。
Please go on.

プリンをどうぞ
Here’s your pudding.

どうぞ遠慮えんりょなく。
Be my guest!

どうぞよろしく。
Nice to meet you.

こちらへどうぞ
This way, please.

どうぞかまいなく。
Please don’t bother.

きなせきどうぞ
Please sit wherever you like.

どうぞおかけください。
Please have a seat.

どうぞらんください。
Please take a look.

A:このペンをりてもいいですか。
B: どうぞ
A:Could I borrow this pen?
B: Go ahead.

Note:

In プリンをどうぞ, maybe you will wonder:
Is どうぞ a verb?
Nope, it’s not a verb. it’s an adverb.

In プリンをどうぞ=プリンをどうぞ(べてください)。
It just dropped the verb to make this sentence more polite.

    This one is weird to me.

    Is the どうぞ necessary?

    Doesn’t this just read as “Please, please take a seat”?
