Lesson 22: 〜とき

Usage:

①Verb(Dictionary Form, Past Tense Form) + とき
②Te Form of Verb + いる + とき
③i-Adj + とき
④na-Adj + な + とき
⑤Noun + の + とき

Meaning:

「〜とき」means “When…; If…; During…”.

Notes:
①You can add に when you use とき.(〜ときに), 〜とき and 〜ときに are the same.
②You can add はwa (〜ときはwa) to emphasize the part before はwa.

Example Sentences:

遅おそくなるときは電でん話わします。
If I’m late, I’ll call.

君きみは寝ねるときに何なにを考かんがえるの？
What do you think about when you go to sleep?

私わたしが話はなしているときは私わたしを見みて！
Look at me when I talk to you!

昨日きのう、寝ねるとき、窓まどを閉しめました。
I closed the window when I slept yesterday.

マークが着ついたとき私わたしは眠ねむっていた。
I was asleep when Mark arrived.

朝あさ、人ひとに会あったとき、「おはようございます」と言いうべきです。
You should say “Good Morning” when you met someone in the morning.

先生せんせいはベルが鳴なったとき授じゅ業ぎょうを終おえた。
The teacher dismissed his class when the bell rang.

私わたしは、寒さむいときに外そとに出でるのは好すきではない。
I don’t like going out when it’s cold.

暑あついとき、エアコンをつけてください。
Please turn on the air conditioner when it’s hot.

暇ひまなとき何なにをしてるの？
What do you do when you are free?

いつでも好すきなときに来きなさい。
Come whenever you like.

就職しゅうしょく面接めんせつのとき、緊きん張ちょうした？
Were you nervous during the job interview?

彼女かのじょは２５にじゅうご歳さいのとき結婚けっこんした。
She got married when she was twenty-five.

    Shouldn’t the translation for : “あさ、人に会ったとき、「おはようございます」といいます。” be ” I say good morning when I meet someone in the morning?

    Because the current translatioったりn sounds more like : 朝日、あさ、人に会ったとき、「おはようございます」と言った方がいいです。

      あさ、人に会ったとき、「おはようございます」と言うべきです。
      I will change it tomorrow.

    昨日、食べとき、、アリスに話しかけました(When eating yesterday, I was talking to Alice)
    午前、パズルゲームをやったとき、アリスは来た。Alice came when we were playing a puzzle game this morning
    ミリアムは歌ったときよろしいでした。Myriam was happy when I sang.
    ミリアムは踊ったときよろしいでした。Myriam was happy when I danced.
    ナンシは私が来たとき、よろしいでした。Nancy was happy when I came.

    あさ、人ひとに会あったとき、「おはようございます」と言いうべきです。
    午後、飴を買ったとき。[飴はどこにいるの？] と言うべきです。if you go to buy candy this noon, you have to say [Where the candy is?]

    暑いとき、家の中に行って。When you feel hot, go inside the house.
