Lesson 30: ほとんど～

Usage:

ほとんど + Verb

Meaning:

「ほとんど〜」 means “almost…; hardly…; next to…”.

Example Sentences:

ほとんど終おわった？
Are you almost finished?

本ほんはほとんどない。
There are almost no books.

彼かれはほとんど働はたらかない。
He hardly works.

私わたしはほとんど泳およげない。
I can hardly swim.

ほとんど全ぜん部ぶ分わかった。
I understood almost everything.

それはほとんど不ふ可か能のうだ。
It is next to impossible.

それはほとんど関係かんけいない。
That hardly mattered.

バケツにほとんど水みずがない。
There’s almost no water in the bucket.

トムはほとんど遅ち刻こくしない。
Tom is almost never late.

テレビはほとんど見みません。
I almost never watch TV.

昨さく夜やはほとんど眠ねむれなかった。
I hardly slept last night.

仕し事ごとはほとんど終おわりました。
The work is almost over.

この犬いぬはほとんど何なんでも食たべる。
This dog eats almost anything.

私わたしは彼女かのじょとほとんど会あわなかった。
I almost never met her.

Note:

ほとんど can be used as a Noun. It means “almost all”.

その事故じこが起おこったとき、バスの乗客じょうきゃくのほとんどが眠ねむっていた。
Almost all of the passenger in the bus were asleep when the accident happened.
