Lesson 25: 〜後(あと)/後で

Usage:

①Past Tense Form of Verb + あと/あと
②Noun + の + あと/あと


Meaning:

You use 「〜あと/あとで」 to express the order of two actions.
「Action A +  あと/あとで+ Action B 」 means “You need to do Action A before you do Action B”.

Example Sentences:

いたあとでんをくれ。
Call me once you’ve arrived.

大学だいがくそつぎょうしたあとなにをしますか。
What are you going to do after graduating from college?

たくさんあるいたあとりょうあしいたんだ。
My legs ached after the long walk.

30さんじゅうぷんはしったあとそのくるまうごかなくなった。
The car broke down after half an hour’s driving.

列車れっしゃてしまったあとわたしえきいた。
I only got to the station after the train had left.

彼女かのじょかれていったあとかれまえわたしおしえてくれた。
She told me his name after he had left.

しちるようにざましをけたあと彼女かのじょしゅうしんした。
She went to bed, having set the alarm for seven.

ごとあとあつまりたい?
Do you want to get together after work?

めしあとおれどこについた。
I went to bed after eating.

夕飯ゆうはんあと宿しゅくだいをしました。
After dinner, I did my homework.

ぼくらはばんはんあとさんた。
We went out for a walk after dinner.

わたしはゲームをやったあとました。
I went to bed after I played games.

しょくあとさんしませんか。
Would you like to take a walk after meal?

Note:

Below is the difference between 「〜てから」 and 「〜あと/あとで」.

「〜てから」:the time interval between two actions shouldn’t be too long.

「〜あと/あとで」:the time interval between two actions can be short or long.
