In Japanese, 町 means “town”.

How to read it:

How to write it:

How to use it:

Kunyomi: 町(まち)→town Onyomi: xx町(ちょう)→xx town

Origin:

町 = 田 + 丁。 田 is the field and 丁 is the border of the field. In the town we use border of the field so that we won’t get confused. So 町 stands for “town”.
