Meaning

In Japanese, 転 means “to fall down”.

転換(てんかん)する→to convert

Origin:

It is hard for you to remember this kanji by its origin. However, I will  think of a way for you to remember it. 転=車+云,車 means “car”,云 is part of 雲,which is cloud. If you drive your car on the cloud, then it will be dangerous because you will fall down. So 転 stands for “to fall down”.
