In this lesson, I will teach you how to use the particle から.
Function 1: Starting Point
If you want to express the starting point(time/space), you can use something like below.
Starting Point + から
Example Sentences:
私は日本から来ました。 I came from Japan. 彼は教室から出ました。 He got out of the classroom. あしたから夏休みです。 Tomorrow is Summer vacation. 来年から大学に行きます。 I will go to college from next year. |
Function 2: The Material
If you want to express the material, you can use something like below.
material + から + Verb
Example Sentences:
日本酒は米から作られた。 Sake is made from rice. 私たちはぶどうからワインを作ります。 We make wine from grapes. これは土から作られたパイプです。 This is a pipe made of clay. チーズは牛乳から作られますか? Can you make cheese from milk? |
Function 3: The Giver of Things or Information
If you want to mark the giver of things or information, you can use something like below.
giver + から + Verb
Example Sentences:
田中さんから本をもらいました。 I got a book from Mr. Tanaka. 先生から質問を出しました。 The teacher asked a question. 私から説明します。 I will explain it. 友達から電話が来た。 My friend called me. |
Function 4: The Agent in Causative Form and Passive Form
If you want to express the the agent in causative form and passive form, you can use に or から,they are interchangeable.
Example Sentences:
山田さんから本を読ませます。 I will let Yamada read the book. 先生からほめられました。 I was praised by the teacher. 鈴木さんから説明させました。 I let Mr. Suzuki explain this. |

彼は教室から出ました。
Can it also be written as 彼は教室を出ました?
It’s weird. Because を is used to describe [small place to large place], but if you went out from classroom, the place is not that large.
