Lesson 3: Thousand
In this lesson, I will teach you 9 N5 words: 千、二千、三千、四千、五千、六千、七千、八千、九千.
Meanings and Readings:

| 千 | せん | one thousand |
| 二千 | にせん | two thousand |
| 三千 | さんぜん | three thousand |
| 四千 | よんせん | four thousand |
| 五千 | ごせん | five thousand |
| 六千 | ろくせん | six thousand |
| 七千 | ななせん | seven thousand |
| 八千 | はっせん | eight thousand |
| 九千 | きゅうせん | nine thousand |
Pronunciation Patterns:
- Numbers ending with 千 undergo different sound changes:
- 三千 → さんぜん (sanzen) with せん → ぜん change
- Note the sound change: はちせん → はっせん in 八千
- Other numbers generally maintain the base せん reading
- 四千 uses よん instead of し, similar to 四百 (yonhyaku)

Atarashii apāto no yachin wa rokusen en desu. そのコンサートには七千人のファンが来ました。 Seven thousand fans came to the concert. Sono konsāto ni wa nanasen nin no fan ga kimashita. このスタジアムの収容人数は八千人です。 This stadium’s capacity is eight thousand people. Kono sutajiamu no shūyō ninzu wa hassen nin desu. この会社には九千人の従業員がいます。 This company has nine thousand employees. Kono kaisha ni wa kyūsen nin no jūgyōin ga imasu. |

Common Mistakes to Avoid:
- Don’t forget the sound change for 三千: さんぜん (not さんせん)
- Don’t forget the sound change for 八千: はっせん (not はちせん)
- Don’t use しち for 七千 – it’s always ななせん in modern Japanese
