Lesson 3: Thousand

In this lesson, I will teach you 9 N5 words: 千、二千、三千、四千、五千、六千、七千、八千、九千.

Pronunciation Patterns:

Numbers ending with 千 undergo different sound changes:
- 三千 → さんぜん (sanzen) with せん → ぜん change
- Note the sound change: はちせん → はっせん in 八千
- Other numbers generally maintain the base せん reading
四千 uses よん instead of し, similar to 四百 (yonhyaku)

The rent for the new apartment is six thousand yen.
Atarashii apāto no yachin wa rokusen en desu.

そのコンサートには七千人のファンが来ました。
Seven thousand fans came to the concert.
Sono konsāto ni wa nanasen nin no fan ga kimashita.

このスタジアムの収容人数は八千人です。
This stadium’s capacity is eight thousand people.
Kono sutajiamu no shūyō ninzu wa hassen nin desu.

この会社には九千人の従業員がいます。
This company has nine thousand employees.
Kono kaisha ni wa kyūsen nin no jūgyōin ga imasu.
