Lesson 4: Who
In this lesson, I will teach you how to say “who” in Japanese.
In Japanese, you can use どちらさま、どなた and 誰 to say “Who”.
Examples:
どちらさまでしょうか。 Who are you? どなたですか。 Who are you? 君は誰?(it’s a little bit rude) Who are you? 彼は誰ですか。 Who is he? |
Notes:
①どちらさま is the most polite way to say who, and どなた is more polite than 誰. ②でしょうか is a formal way to say ですか. |

I can’t comprehend how can “who” be polite or not polite xD.
Yeah, but in Japanese it happens🤣
I decided to do some very short dialogues for these new words, so I can practice. The first one is kinda funny tho XD
ジュリ: 君は誰だ?
シャリ:何???
ジュリ:あ、すみません
クレエ:どちらさまでしよか?
ジル:ジルです
クレエ:よろしくお願いします。
in どちらさま, can you change the さま at the end to be less formal like どちらさん or no
It’s rude. You’d better not use it.
詩野本姫ず奈:ね、秋桜ちゃん、あちらはどなたの?
秋桜:あっちは大道寺 真梨子さんですよ。
