ら is pronounced as /la/.

Is the pronunciation really an “l” sound rather than “r” or is it more like something in between?
It is “L” sound
i think that it is (R) not (L)
It’s written as R maybe, But it’s read as L, so I write it here L to make sure you won’t be confused

Nope, Japanese can’t pronounce “r” sound. They are written as ra,…, but they are pronounced as la,…,
It is between ‘L’ and ‘R’, but closer to an R. When Japanese men sing Love Me Tender at karaoke bars, they sound like they are trying to say RUB or ROB.
Oh my, for long I thought the ‘r’ hiragana is pronounced is what it looks. Only to turn out I was actually wrong.
This looks pretty complex after looking into it. I don’t think it’s pronounced just l but a mixture between r and l.
so “li” is written exactly as “i”? I’m confused lol

If anyone is confused, I feel like watching/listening to anything with native Japanese (yes even anime) can help with pronunciation. R’s are definitely a unique sound. Bordering on L and D. Think of the very beginning of rolling your tongue in Spanish, your tongue taps against the roof of your mouth to generate the sound.
Well, apparently it doesn’t sound like our russian R but it’s not pure L either. More like very soft R

I feel like there’s probably a better meaning for 丸(まる) than “round,” because there’s so many different uses of the word round as a noun in English:
“Cut the cucumber into small rounds” (a disk-like shaped object) [this is probably the one you mean]
“The first round of the fight was ended with one punch” (a division of session in an event)
“A round of drinks on me” or “The crowd burst into a round of applause” (a reoccurring cycle of events)
“The hunter fired three quick round into the bear” (the amount of ammunition required to fire a single shot)
I don’t know if “circle” would be as accurate, but it’s the only close word I can find.
