Missions in Hiragana Area
Mission 12: わをん
In this lesson, we’ll learn the last three hiragana:
わ・を・ん
Let’s finish strong! ✨
わ is pronounced as /wa/.
| Tip | Wow! A magic wand! わ as in “wand”. ![]() |
| Stroke Order | ![]() |
| Write it Down | ![]() |
を is pronounced as /o/.
| Notes: (1)The romaji for を is “wo” or “o”, but it’s pronounced “o”. (2)About 50% of Japanese people still read it as “wo” for historical reasons, so you can use “wo” if you like! ✨ |
| Tip | Oh!A cheerleader is on my toe!. を as in “Oh”. ![]() |
| Stroke Order | ![]() |
| Write it Down | ![]() |
ん is pronounced as /ng/.
| Tip | This is in the end. ん as in “end”. ![]() |
| Stroke Order | ![]() |
| Write it Down | ![]() |
Romaji of わをん:
| Hiragana | わ、ん | を |
| Romaji | wa, n | “wo” or “o” |
Note:
| The hiragana を is a little special — it only appears as a particle, not in regular words. You’ll learn all about particles later, so no worries! ✨ |

I’m slightly confused, whats the difference between お and を? They sound they same to me
を: this is a particle. You can learn it in the particle course.
お: It is used for normal vocabularies.
I’m wondering why don’t these appear in the song?
it appears in the end.
oh! i didn’t know, thanks! @Marshall
Good lessons!!
Thank you!
I’ve sometimes heard singers pronounce を as “wo” instead of “o” in their songs. Is this just a thing singers do? Two examples of this off the top of my head are Colors by FLOW and Haruka Kanata by AKFG.
Colors
自分を (Jibun wo)
Haruka Kanata
心をそっと開いて (kokoro wo sotto aite)
Yes, only songs.
Ah ok that makes it easier.
Also, I think こわい (kowai) probably means “scary” instead of “scared.” The two words have opposite meanings in English.
Someone is “scared” when they react with fear towards a thing.
Something or someone is “scary” when they make someone afraid.
Scary things make people scared.
Example:
“Don’t be a scared, little baby, it’s just a spider.”
“Spiders are scary, the way they move their creepy little legs.”
Interesting thing is that in Japanese, こわい can be used to express that something/somebody is scary, or somebody is scared. So I will add “scary” in the meaning column too.
That’s cool, thanks for letting me know
completed hiragana,here i come katakana
